The history of Radiant barrier begins far back as the early 1920's. Unlike other forms of insulation (fiberglass batting, blown-in fiberglass, stryfoam, etc) which absorb and eventually transfer heat into living spaces, radiant barriers reduce heat gain from the sun by reflecting the radiant heat in the opposite direction from which it came.
Radiant barriers are unaffected by humidity or ambient temperatures, unlike other forms of insulation, and therefore perform at a consistent level at all times.
Our radiant barrier products are the leading products on the market used by home owners, new home builders, and agricultural and manufacturing enterprises. Our radiant barrier foil insulation products are made from 99% pure aluminum making them the best at blocking 97% of the radiant heat that attempts to enter building structures.
Radiant Barrier has been used in the Apollo and Gemini missions into outerspace. Radiant Barrier was the primary insulation to control the environment that allowed the astronauts to work in the Command Module in short sleeve shirts instead of their space suits. Radiant Barrier has been used on virtually all crafts including unmanned missions where instruments required thermal protection from the sun.
NASA was trying to find a way to protect the astronauts during space-walks from extreme temperatures. NASA discovered that they would have to have a seven foot thick layer in the space suit if they attempted to use conventional products of insulation. NASA decided to use the radiant barrier technology.
